MPMC POWERTECH CORP., established in 2008 and headquartered in Shanghai Pudong, manufactures the BCH Series mobile BESS charger, a battery-integrated mobile charging station that brings fast DC charging to electric excavators, wheel loaders, dumpers and site vehicles wherever a construction project needs it. As European contractors electrify their machinery to deliver zero-emission sites, the BCH gives them dependable charging from day one of a project, with no permanent grid connection required. This article covers the BCH platform for construction sites, MPMC’s 2 MWh off-grid construction charging project in Norway, the energy sources a site can use, and how MPMC supports contractors and equipment dealers across Europe.

Why European Construction Sites Are Moving to Mobile Battery Charging

Zero-Emission Sites From the First Day of Work

A construction site is temporary by nature, so a mobile charger that arrives, works and moves on with the project is the natural partner for an electric machinery fleet. MPMC’s BCH Series stores energy from the grid, a generator, battery storage or solar PV and delivers fast DC charging to electric vehicles, trucks and construction machinery, while also supplying AC power for site cabins, tools and lighting. Each unit reaches full operational status within 24 hours, so charging is ready as soon as the machines are.

Engineered for Dust, Weather and Constant Movement

BCH units use fully sealed, liquid-cooled blade LFP battery packs that keep dust out, with a high-strength sandwich structure tested for fire, water immersion, high-impact collision and crushing. Enclosures carry C4 industrial anti-corrosion coating, with C5 available on the BCH-800-600 and BCH-500-1000. The BCH-275-200 rides on a 3.5-tonne heavy-duty trailer with integrated forklift pockets for easy repositioning as work zones shift, while the larger models are housed in heavy-duty enclosures, with the BCH-500-1000 built into a 20-foot container for long-duration site work.

Norway: 2 MWh of Off-Grid Construction Machinery Charging

MPMC’s Norway project shows the BCH platform at work on a demanding European site. Delivered as a rental construction heavy machinery charging system, the 2 MWh BCH installation uses units rated at 500 kW and 1,000 kWh each, with CCS2 charging output of 360 kW at 400 A, and charges electric construction machinery fully off-grid with no diesel generator. Its rental structure also shows how well the BCH suits project-based procurement, which is how much European construction equipment is supplied.

Flexible Energy Sources as the Project Evolves

Grid, Generator, Solar or Battery Input

BCH units accept AC input from the grid, generator sets or solar PV, with rated AC input of 80 kW on the BCH-275-200, 280 kW on the BCH-600-400 and BCH-800-600, and 560 kW on the BCH-500-1000. The onboard battery then delivers charging power above the incoming supply, so a modest site connection or a right-sized generator can support high-power machinery charging. On remote sites, a BCH pairs naturally with an MPMC containerised generator set or GSB hybrid power station, and the BCH-275-200 can also recharge through its CCS2 DC input from a fast-charging station in about one hour.

Switching to the Grid When It Arrives

Grid infrastructure often arrives part-way through a build. Because the same BCH unit accepts grid, generator or solar input, it simply changes energy source when the connection is ready, carrying the contractor’s charging set-up through every phase of the project and on to the next site. Contractors keep one familiar system, one monitoring platform and one service partner from groundworks to handover.

Certified, Monitored and Supported Across Europe

BCH-275-200 and larger models include CE-certified aerosol fire protection, and MPMC’s product certifications include CE, UN38.3 for battery transport, TUV and SGS. At company level MPMC holds ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 and operates a CNAS-accredited testing centre in Haimen, Jiangsu. Every BCH charging model has an EMS with 4G connectivity, OCPP 1.6 and an open, cloud-ready API, giving site managers full remote monitoring and control, while MPMC provides remote diagnostics through its SCADA/EMS platform and on-site commissioning by its own engineers.

A Strong Fit for Contractors, Rental Fleets and Equipment Dealers

      Matched to Project-Based Procurement

European contractors often rent or lease machinery for the length of a project, and the BCH fits the same model. A rental company or new-energy construction equipment dealer can supply the electric machines and the BCH charger as one package, move both to the next project when the job is done, and keep the charger earning across many sites. Because MPMC focuses on manufacturing, it partners with rental companies and dealers who build and operate their own rental offers, rather than competing with them for site work.

Cleaner, Quieter Sites in Towns and Cities

Battery charging is silent at the point of use, which helps contractors working near homes, schools and offices or under local noise limits. MPMC’s UK data shows how much cleaner battery charging can be: a BCH-275-200 that delivered 3,457 kWh replaced the 976 litres of diesel an equivalent 150 kW generator would have burned, and solar-supplied BCH charging produces around 22 times less lifecycle CO2 than diesel generation for the same output.

Checklist: Planning Off-Grid Charging for Your Site

      • Total the daily energy needed by every electric machine on site

      • Choose BCH models with headroom for machinery you plan to add

      • Select the starting energy source: grid, generator, solar or battery

      • Plan the switch to grid power if a connection is due during the build

      • Confirm the transport format (trailer or container) for your site access

      • Set up remote monitoring through the 4G EMS or your own platform via OCPP 1.6

      • Arrange on-site commissioning with MPMC’s engineers

      Questions European Construction Teams Ask

Can electric construction machinery be charged with no grid connection at all?

Yes. MPMC’s Norway project charges electric construction machinery fully off-grid with a 2 MWh BCH system and no diesel generator, using CCS2 output of 360 kW at 400 A.

Which certifications support shipping and using BCH units in Europe?

MPMC’s product certifications include CE, UN38.3 for battery transport, TUV and SGS, and BCH-275-200 and larger models have CE-certified aerosol fire protection. Company-level certifications include ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

How is a BCH charger powered on a site without grid access?

A BCH can be charged by an MPMC containerised generator set, a GSB hybrid solar-diesel-battery station or solar PV, and the onboard battery then delivers fast DC charging to the machinery.

How is a BCH unit monitored when no technician is on site?

Every BCH charging model has an EMS with 4G connectivity, OCPP 1.6 and an open API for remote monitoring and command, and MPMC provides remote diagnostics through its SCADA/EMS cloud platform.

Can a BCH charger move from generator power to grid power during a project?

Yes. BCH units accept grid, generator or solar input, so the same unit switches to the grid once a connection is available and continues serving the site through every phase.
